Day 7

Shanghai Children's Medical Center

China’s number one Children’s Hospital. Photos of a visit from the Clintons.

Staff is backing Hillary.

Donations allowed from foreign firms but not from domestic Chinese. Insurance for Children in Shanghai costs 47 RMB for a year. About the cost of a beer at the hotel. Impressive facility. Staff work hard. Achieve 3X the throughput of Boston Children's Hospital.

Staples

Panel discussion with representatives of Staples, American Express, Xerox and UPS. Delivery is king in China. Staples delivers anything. No order size limits. Competing against mom and pop operations with very low overhead. They deliver in two hours compared with Staples four hour delivery. Pizza Hut delivered for lunch. Not sure how fast.

Earthquake

7.9 earthquake in Sichuan. Looks pretty bad. China’s Premier immediately heads to region to head up response. Did not feel anything in Shanghai maybe because we were on the bus. Everyone calls home to make sure no one is worried.
